Import From Anki

Bring existing Anki packages into Cardary and keep media intact.

Use Anki import when you already have a useful .apkg package and do not want to rebuild it manually.

What Cardary imports

  • Note and card data from the package database.
  • Media files referenced by imported cards.
  • Common image and audio references.
  • Field content that can be mapped into Cardary cards.

Before importing

  • Back up important Anki packages.
  • Remove test notes, duplicates, and outdated cards if possible.
  • Expect complex Anki template logic to need review after import.
  • Keep the first import small if the package is large or media-heavy.

After importing

Check a sample of fronts, backs, audio, images, cloze behavior, and categories. Simplify cards whose original template depended on Anki-specific behavior that does not carry over cleanly.

Troubleshooting

If media is missing, verify that it existed in the original package. If formatting looks wrong, simplify HTML and template-specific markup. If the deck is too large, split the package and import in stages.
